On the 28th, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok, floor leader Song Eon-seok, and other participants chant slogans at the People Power Party’s rally to denounce judicial destruction and legislative dictatorship, held on Sejong-daero near City Hall Station in Seoul.
On the holiday of the 28th, the People Power Party (PPP) held a 'Public Rally to Denounce Judicial Destruction and Legislative Dictatorship' in front of Seoul City Hall, intensifying its offensive against the ruling party.
This rally marks a continuation of their outdoor public opinion campaign, coming just a week after a large-scale demonstration in Daegu on the 21st. It is the first outdoor rally held by the PPP in Seoul in approximately five years and eight months, since the protest held in front of Gwanghwamun by the Liberty Korea Party—the predecessor to the PPP—in January 2020.
Party leadership, including leader Jang Dong-hyeok, floor leader Song Eon-seok, and secretary-general Jung Hee-yong, along with affiliated lawmakers and party branch chairpersons, attended the rally.
In a press statement, the PPP claimed that "it is estimated that over 150,000 party members and citizens attended the rally."
The rally began with three lanes blocked off from in front of Seoul City Hall to Sungnyemun Gate, but as party members and supporters gathered, the number of blocked lanes increased to eight. Supporters also crowded the sidewalks across the street.
Participants waved placards reading "Stop the Democratic Party's Judicial Destruction and Legislative Dictatorship" and "The People Will Judge the Collapse of the Rule of Law and Legislative Tyranny," while chanting slogans such as "Judge the Lee Jae-myung Regime, which Eradicates the Opposition and Destroys the Judiciary."
Attendees carrying towels inscribed with "Yoon Again," flags featuring pictures of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, South Korean flags, American flags, and "Destroy Communism" flags were also spotted.
During the rally, the PPP focused its criticism on the Democratic Party's legislation to abolish the Prosecutors' Office and the hearing for Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae.
Floor leader Song stated, "Heaven and earth know that Chief Justice Cho has done nothing wrong; demanding his resignation based on manipulated audio files is something that didn't even happen during military regimes," adding, "They are threatening the Chief Justice because they believe that if they control the judiciary, they can establish a complete one-party dictatorship."
He further remarked, "President Lee Jae-myung and Prime Minister Kim Min-seok are ex-convicts, and if you add up the records of the cabinet ministers, you have a sovereign government of criminals with 22 convictions," adding, "Because they committed crimes themselves, they are dismantling the Prosecutors' Office to create a world where crime is comfortable."
The PPP also played a video titled "A Collection of Harsh Remarks by President Lee and Democratic Party Lawmakers." The video featured comments such as President Lee’s "Why would that (a special tribunal for insurrection) be unconstitutional?" and Democratic Party representative Jung Chung-rae’s "Is the Supreme Court Chief Justice above the President?"
The PPP concluded the rally with a "Red Wave" performance, in which a large South Korean flag and a giant banner reading "Let’s Defend Liberal Democracy with the Power of the People" were unfurled over the heads of the participants.
