The police began the second day of questioning for former Korea Communications Commission (KCC) Chairperson Lee Jin-sook on the 3rd.

The Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station stated that they brought the former Chairperson, who is being held in a detention cell, to the interrogation room at 10 a.m. today to conduct the second round of questioning.

During this second round, the police intend to focus their questioning on the allegations of violations of the Public Official Election Act and the State Public Officials Act.

As the former Chairperson has refused to undergo nighttime questioning, the investigation is expected to conclude around 9 p.m. The police plan to review the results of the investigation before considering a request for an arrest warrant.

Lee’s attorney, Lim Mu-young, met with reporters upon arriving at the police station and announced that the review of the legality of the arrest, requested by Lee’s side, will be held at the Seoul Southern District Court at 3 p.m. on the 4th.

The defense argues that the arrest was unjust, stating that although the police claimed she "failed to comply with six summons," she had in fact not refused to comply and had submitted valid written justifications for her absences.

Attorney Lim argued, "If the prosecutor and judge had read the justifications for absence, there is no way an arrest warrant would have been requested or issued," adding, "It must be investigated during the National Assembly audit whether these were omitted from the records."

However, a police official told Yonhap News that "(the investigation) is unrelated to the schedule for the review of the legality of the arrest," and stated that they intend to proceed with the investigation as planned.

This suggests that the police intend to proceed with the process of requesting or applying for an arrest warrant regardless of the outcome of the review of the legality of the arrest.

The period from the moment the court receives investigative documents and evidence until the materials are returned following a decision is not included in the time limit for requesting an arrest warrant after executing an arrest.

The former Chairperson is accused of making politically biased remarks while appearing on four conservative YouTube channels between September and October of last year, during a period when she was suspended from duty.

The police believe that her expression of political opinions, such as stating that "the Democratic Party or leftist groups are capable of doing anything imaginable," constituted a violation of the political neutrality required of a public official.

Furthermore, she is suspected of making remarks aimed at ensuring the defeat of Democratic Party candidates through Facebook posts and comments made at the National Assembly between March and April of this year, ahead of the presidential and by-elections, by calling "Democratic Party lawmakers and Representative Lee Jae-myung individuals caught in the act of dereliction of duty."

Attorney Lim acknowledged the facts of the incidents to reporters but asserted her innocence, claiming that the legal interpretation was flawed.

"If pointing out the faults of the Democratic Party is interpreted as an intent to oppose the party, it would mean that the Democratic Party is a sanctuary that no one can criticize," he said. "That is something that cannot happen in a democratic country."

The police maintain their position that the former Chairperson violated her duty of neutrality as a public official.
