"Fire Inspection All Night... Regrettable Politicization of National Crisis with Baseless Allegations"
Reiterated Notification Message of President Lee Presiding Over Meetings at the Time
Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong briefing (Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Do-hoon = Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong is briefing on the Senior Secretaries Meeting held at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the 2nd. 2025.10.2 superdoo82@yna.co.kr
The Presidential Office expressed strong regret on the 3rd regarding Rep. Ju Jin-woo of the People Power Party's claim that "President Lee Jae-myung did not respond to the situation" in relation to the National Information Resources Management Service fire, calling it a "clear dissemination of false information."
Rep. Ju had previously posted on his Facebook, "While national damage was rampant due to the fire at the National Information Resources Management Service, the President remained silent for a full two days without presiding over meetings or visiting the site. These are lost 48 hours."
In response, Presidential Office Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong issued a written briefing stating, "We express strong regret for politicizing the national crisis by raising baseless allegations," and added, "We are considering legal action."
Spokesperson Kang explained, "At around 8:20 PM on the 26th, the day the fire occurred, President Lee was on a plane returning from attending the UN General Assembly."
She further emphasized, "At 9:39 AM the following day, the 27th, Presidential Office Public Relations Senior Secretary Lee Gyu-yeon sent a notification to reporters stating, 'President Lee received reports from the National Crisis Management Center Director and ministers regarding the fire and inspected the situation all night.'"
Spokesperson Kang's explanation is that President Lee inspected the fire response situation overnight immediately after his return and that this was also communicated to the media.
Spokesperson Kang also added, "At 10:50 AM on the 28th, the Chief of Staff and the National Security Advisor reported on the fire in person, and at 5:30 PM the same day, President Lee directly visited the Government Complex Seoul and presided over in-person and video conferences with relevant ministers and provincial governors."
The Presidential Office also shared with reporters again on this day the notification message that had been sent to reporters at the time, which contained news of President Lee presiding over meetings. Yonhap News
