People Power Party: "Excessive measures to protect 'Supreme Dignity' Kim Hyun-ji"… Offensive over 'Lee Jin-sook's arrest' (Summary)

The People Power Party continued its offensive against the police over the arrest of former Korea Communications Commission Chair Lee Jin-sook on the 3rd, the first day of the Chuseok holiday.
In particular, the party attempted to influence public opinion during the Chuseok holiday by linking the incident to Chief of the Office of the President Kim Hyun-ji, who was appointed to a position that has no precedent for being summoned to a parliamentary audit, amid ongoing partisan disputes over her attendance at the audits.
Representative Jang Dong-hyuk met with reporters after visiting the Yeongdeungpo Police Station, where Lee is being held, and criticized, "This can only be interpreted as a political maneuver to divert attention from the 'Absolute Dignity' Kim Hyun-ji during the Chuseok holiday and put former Chair Lee in the spotlight instead."
He further pointed out, "If the police withheld the fact that Lee's statement of non-attendance had been submitted when they applied for the arrest warrant, and failed to attach it to the records, that is an unacceptable, serious crime," adding, "This is a grave case of investigative record tampering."
Jang emphasized, "I met with the chief of the Yeongdeungpo Police Station and asked if the statement of non-attendance was attached to the records when applying for the warrant, but I only received the answer that 'it is a matter of investigation and cannot be disclosed,'" and added, "Former Chair Lee must be released immediately once the investigation is concluded."
Representative Jang stated, "I will file complaints against the police, prosecutors, and judges today," and added, "As the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office may also be involved in the issuance of the arrest warrant, I will consider filing additional complaints with other institutions, such as the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO)."
Chief Spokesperson Park Sung-hoon also released a separate commentary, stating, "As the controversy surrounding 'Supreme Dignity' Chief Kim Hyun-ji—whose academic background and even nationality are unclear—has grown, they are attempting to cover up public opinion with an unreasonable arrest by mobilizing the police," and added, "If failing to respond to a summons is grounds for arrest, President Lee Jae-myung, who has mocked prosecutorial investigations, should be arrested immediately."
Spokesperson Park emphasized, "This is a historical scene of dictatorship and terror politics," and asserted, "Public sentiment is turning coldly away from the Democratic Party of Korea and President Lee, who are obsessed with political retaliation and have gone beyond legislative dictatorship for permanent rule."
Floor Spokesperson Choi Eun-seok also said in a commentary, "The surprise arrest of former Chair Lee took place while the controversy over Chief Kim shows no signs of subsiding," adding, "As long as the Office of the President and the Democratic Party hold onto this 'internal ticking time bomb' named Kim Hyun-ji, they cannot avoid self-destruction."
The People Power Party is also considering calling Chief Kim as a witness for the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee audit.
Previously, Representative Kim Jang-gyum raised the possibility that Chief Kim may have intervened in the appointment of Korea Forest Service Minister Kim In-ho, claiming he received a tip that the minister was her former teacher. Yonhap News
