The Yeongdeungpo Future Education Foundation will operate a 'Overseas Aerospace Camp' for 25 middle school students in the district from July 22nd to 25th, aiming to nurture future talent to lead the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Launch ceremony for the 2025 Overseas Aerospace Camp.
This camp is a specialized science education program unique to Yeongdeungpo, focusing on future advanced technologies such as space science, AI, and robotics. It was planned with the aim of fostering scientific inquiry and a global perspective by directly experiencing key science and technology sites in Japan.
The main destination, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) Tsukuba Center, is a leading space development organization in Japan. It collaborates with NASA on the U.S. Artemis program and plays a key role in the development of manned lunar spacecraft and Mars exploration.
In addition, students will visit major science and culture institutions in Japan, including the National Science Museum, the National Museum of Nature and Science, and the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. At each institution, they will directly observe and experience advanced technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and smart mobility, exploring the trends and application possibilities of real-world technologies.
Throughout the entire camp, a professional docent with a Ph.D. in engineering will accompany the students, providing on-site explanations, Q&A sessions, and discussions. The program focuses on connecting theory with practice through explanations tailored to the students' level and developing scientific thinking and creative problem-solving skills through participatory learning.
The participating students are middle schoolers who were finally selected after a two-stage selection process. They held a launch ceremony on July 11th and have begun thorough preliminary preparations. Following the camp, a post-camp report will be written, and follow-up linkage programs will also be operated.
An official from the Yeongdeungpo Future Education Foundation stated, "We hope this small step towards space will sow the seeds of big dreams and challenges for the children," and added, "We will continue to expand future-oriented educational projects, including domestic and international field trips, AI education, and scholarship support, to provide unwavering support for Yeongdeungpo youth to grow into global key talents."
