People Power Party (PPP) Senior Deputy Floor Leader Kim Eun-hye announced at a parliamentary audit strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the 10th that the party will push for legislation as a party platform to prevent what she called the "three major shopping sprees" by Chinese nationals: healthcare, voting, and real estate.

Representative Kim stated, "There is a continuous stream of instances where foreigners and Chinese nationals stepping foot on our land exploit gaps in our systems to 'hit and run' with taxpayer money," adding, "They are receiving tens of millions of won in benefits while paying less than 20,000 won in health insurance premiums, and they are buying up homes for speculative purposes to collect rent from our citizens."

She further argued, "Once Chinese nationals obtain permanent residency, they can vote in our elections even if they do not reside in Korea after three years. It goes against the principle of reciprocity for Chinese nationals who do not live in Korea to exercise sovereignty over this land," adding, "This is why the Democratic Party conducts election campaigns in Chinese during local elections."

She continued, "The government and the ruling party are always overly polite toward China. They make a fuss about anti-China protests being hateful, yet they turn a blind eye to anti-American protests," asserting that "the People Power Party will rectify this reverse discrimination against our citizens."

It is understood that lawmakers within the People Power Party generally agree on pushing for the "three major shopping prevention acts," particularly in light of recent policies such as allowing visa-free entry for Chinese group tourists.
