The Hong Myung-bo squad suffered a five-goal defeat against the world-class powerhouse Brazil, whose star strikers showcased their formidable firepower.

South Korea, led by coach Hong Myung-bo, lost heavily 0-5 to Brazil in a friendly match held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on October 10.

South Korea conceded goals to Estevão in the 13th minute of the first half and Rodrygo in the 41st minute. In the early stages of the second half, defensive errors led to further goals from the same players, causing the team to collapse. Vinícius Júnior scored the final goal late in the match.

The team was unable to fully enjoy the milestones of Son Heung-min (LAFC) setting a new record for most international caps and Lee Jae-sung (Mainz) joining the Century Club, only to be overwhelmed by the fierce offensive power of the world's top strikers.

Rodrygo, who plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid, is currently being used as a substitute this season but was a regular starter last season, scoring 14 goals in 54 official matches.

Estevão, who played in the Brazilian league, transferred to Chelsea this season and is a regular starter. In his most recent match against Liverpool, he scored his first goal of the season.

Vinícius, who scored 22 goals last season and 5 goals this season for Real Madrid, is widely recognized as one of the best strikers, having finished second in the Ballon d'Or rankings last year.

South Korea, ranked 23rd by the FIFA, now has a record of 1 win and 8 losses against Brazil, ranked 6th.

After winning 1-0 in a home friendly match in March 1999, South Korea has now lost six consecutive matches against Brazil.

The five-goal margin is the largest in the history of matches between South Korea and Brazil.

Previously, the largest defeat South Korea had suffered against Brazil was a 1-5 loss in their encounter in June 2022.

The Hong Myung-bo squad experienced their second defeat since his appointment, after a 0-1 loss to Japan in the EAFF E-1 Championship in July, marking their first loss in two months and three matches.

The Hong Myung-bo era, which began in September last year, now has a record of 9 wins, 5 draws, and 2 losses in international matches.

Coach Hong deployed a 'full strength' squad, with all players selected from overseas leagues.

'Captain' Son Heung-min made his 137th international appearance, surpassing coach Hong Myung-bo and former national team coach Cha Bum-kun (both with 136 caps) to become South Korea's all-time leader in international appearances.

Lee Jae-sung, Son Heung-min's close friend and part of the '1992-born duo,' played his 100th international match, becoming the 16th South Korean player to join the Century Club.

Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain) formed the attacking trio with Son Heung-min and Lee Jae-sung, while Baek Seung-ho (Birmingham City) and Hwang In-beom (Feyenoord) anchored the midfield.

Following the strategy used in the previous matches against the United States and Mexico, coach Hong employed a three-back system. Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), Kim Ju-seong (Sanfrecce Hiroshima), and Cho Yu-min (Sharjah) formed the defensive line.

Lee Tae-seok (Austria Wien) and Seol Young-woo (Crvena Zvezda) were deployed as wing-backs, with Jo Hyeon-woo (Ulsan) in goal.

Brazil, managed by coach Carlo Ancelotti, featured superstars such as Rodrygo, Casemiro (Manchester United), and Estevão in their starting lineup.

South Korea attacked with intent whenever opportunities arose but failed to convert them into shots, while Brazil scored the opening goal with their superior football.

In the 13th minute of the first half, Gabriel Magalhães delivered a penetrating pass that Estevão finished with a right-footed shot to break the deadlock.

Lee Tae-seok momentarily lost track of Estevão, which led to the goal.

South Korea's first shot came in the 23rd minute. Hwang In-beom attempted a left-footed shot from a corner kick that was blocked by an opponent.

Brazil extended their lead in the 41st minute of the first half with a fantastic passing sequence culminating in Rodrygo's second goal.

Vinícius cut back from the left, and Rodrygo passed it back to him. Casemiro immediately passed it back to Rodrygo. While the Korean players were focused on Casemiro, Rodrygo fired a right-footed shot from the left side of the penalty area, between defenders, to score.

South Korea sought to change the momentum by substituting Hwang In-beom with Jens Castrop (Mönchengladbach), who is stronger defensively. However, they conceded two more goals in the early stages of the second half due to defensive lapses.

In the 2nd minute of the second half, Kim Min-jae failed to properly control a backpass from Kim Ju-seong. Vinícius seized the opportunity and scored with a left-footed shot to make it 3-0.

Two minutes later, Baek Seung-ho lost possession while receiving a pass. Rodrygo immediately received a pass from Vinícius and scored another goal.

Coach Hong substituted Son Heung-min, Kim Min-jae, and Lee Jae-sung, who had not shown significant impact, in the 18th minute of the second half, bringing on Oh Hyun-gyu (Genk), Park Jin-seop, and Kim Jin-gyu (both Jeonbuk).

In the 31st minute of the second half, Won Du-jae (Korpan) replaced Baek Seung-ho, and in the 36th minute, Lee Dong-gyeong (Gimcheon) came on for Lee Kang-in.

However, the anticipated consolation goal did not materialize. Instead, in the 32nd minute of the second half, Brazil scored their fifth goal on a lightning-fast counter-attack by Vinícius.

Despite heavy rain, 63,237 spectators attended the match.
