Jangsu County has issued an official statement to address rumors regarding "Girls' Generation's Taeyeon appearing at a local festival." While the county provided an explanation, addressed the cause of the leak, apologized for the confusion, and outlined measures to prevent a recurrence, criticism surrounding the casting process and the wording of the statement persists.

On the 15th, the Jangsu County Office stated via its official Instagram, "We sincerely apologize for the disappointment caused to local residents and Taeyeon's fans due to the unauthorized leak of a candidate lineup and draft poster, even though the casting of Girls' Generation's Taeyeon for the 19th Jangsu Hanwoo & Apple Festival opening performance was ultimately unsuccessful." The statement added, "We will use this incident as an opportunity to review overall festival operations and strengthen the verification process for performers to ensure such cases do not recur."

Previously, starting on the 14th, a poster claiming that Taeyeon would perform at the 'Jangsu Hanwoo & Apple Festival' in September spread across social media and online communities, drawing significant attention. The poster prominently featured Taeyeon's face and name, and the controversy escalated as some netizens claimed to have personally confirmed the casting with the county.

However, her agency, SM Entertainment, immediately denied the rumors, stating, "Taeyeon is not appearing at this event. We have not even received a casting offer." While the possibility of confusion with trot singer Kim Taeyeon, who shares the same name, was raised, Kim Taeyeon's side clarified that "her appearance was confirmed through consultations between the county office and an agency."

Jangsu County later told various media outlets, "We attempted to cast Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, but it fell through, and there was a misunderstanding in that process." However, they did not issue an official stance regarding trot singer Kim Taeyeon's appearance, which only added to the confusion. Kim Taeyeon's name was notably absent from the final official statement released by the county on this day.

Some have raised concerns regarding the county's use of the term "ultimately unsuccessful" despite Taeyeon's side explicitly denying the rumor, arguing that "it makes it seem as if Taeyeon's side rejected the offer." Furthermore, critics point out that by basing their explanation on the premise that a casting attempt was made—contrary to SM's claim that no offer was even sent—the county has only made it harder to quell the controversy.

This incident has exposed two major errors: confusion over performers with the same name and the leaking of an unconfirmed poster. It serves as a case study on the lax operations possible in the casting and promotion of local government-led festivals, and attention is now focused on how Jangsu County will handle the situation moving forward.
