According to Kyodo News, Ambassador Glass made these remarks at a lecture in Tokyo, stating that security, joint development of defense equipment, and cybersecurity are also expected to be discussed at the U.S.-Japan summit. He also added that he is "willing to cooperate" regardless of who is elected as the successor to Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

Bearing in mind China's repeated assertive actions in the waters around the Senkaku (China's name: Diaoyu Islands) archipelago, a disputed territory, Ambassador Glass emphasized, "The United States will take full responsibility for the defense of Japan, including the Senkakus."
