Bae Suk-jeo, Chairperson of the Special Committee for the Defense of Judicial Justice and Prevention of Dictatorship of the People Power Party, and lawyer Park Kyung-ho, who represented the deceased public official from Yangpyeong County Office in Gyeonggi Province, are seen moving to file a complaint with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the 22nd, accusing Special Prosecutor Min Jung-ki of violations of the Capital Markets Act and abuse of power. Yonhap News.
Police announced on the 23rd that they are investigating allegations that Min Jung-ki (14th graduating class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), the special prosecutor investigating suspicions related to First Lady Kim Keon-hee, used non-public information for stock trading.
Park Jeong-bo, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, responded to Rep. Park Deok-heum of the People Power Party, who asked about the investigation status of Special Prosecutor Min during the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee's audit on the same day, stating, "A complaint has been filed for violation of the Capital Markets Act, and the Jongno Police Station is conducting the investigation. We will thoroughly investigate according to procedure."
Suspicions of using non-public information arose when it was revealed that Special Prosecutor Min made a profit of over 150 million won by selling shares of the solar material company NeosemiTech around 2010, when he was a High Court Presiding Judge (equivalent to a Vice Minister). In response, the People Power Party and others filed a complaint against Special Prosecutor Min the previous day.
Rep. Park stated, "Given that the public is talking a lot about these suspicions, the use of non-public information by Special Prosecutor Min must be thoroughly investigated. I request that the investigation be transferred to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency rather than handled by the Jongno Police Station."
Commissioner Park responded, "We will thoroughly investigate."
Police also announced that they are collecting information regarding a currency exchange office, believed to be the Seoul branch of the Cambodian financial services conglomerate Huione Group, which is suspected of being a money laundering channel for North Korea.
In response to a question from Rep. Mo Gyeong-jong of the Democratic Party of Korea regarding this matter, Commissioner Park stated, "We are in the information gathering stage regarding this matter, and if criminal suspicion is confirmed after analysis, we will immediately commence an investigation."
