September inflation data comes in below expectations, sparking cheers of "Thanks to Trump"
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. AP Yonhap News.
The U.S. administration under Donald Trump welcomed the news on the 24th (local time) that the U.S. consumer inflation rate for September came in lower than market expectations.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that day, "Thanks to President Trump's economic policies, September inflation came in below market expectations."
The U.S. Department of Labor announced that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September rose 3.0% from the same month last year, and the core CPI, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, also rose 3.0% year-on-year.
The figures released that day fell short of all expert forecasts compiled by Dow Jones, providing relief to the market.
Leavitt added, "This is good news for American families, and it is regrettable that the Democratic Party is using this as 'leverage' for medical support for illegal immigrants."
Leavitt further stated, "If the Democratic Party insists on a government shutdown, there may be no inflation report for October," adding, "This would plunge businesses, markets, families, and the Federal Reserve into confusion."
The release of these price indicators, originally scheduled for the 15th, was delayed due to the shutdown.
