On October 24th, at the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Future Planning, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee's inspection at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in Daejeon, Chairman Choi Min-hee declares the opening. Yonhap News.
On the 28th, a dispute arose when Representative Kwak Sang-eon of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is also the son-in-law of former President Roh Moo-hyun, directly refuted Representative Choi Min-hee of the same party, who was embroiled in a controversy over wedding gift money for her child's wedding, after she invoked the 'spirit of Roh Moo-hyun'.
Rep. Choi, who chairs the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Future Planning, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, stated in a Facebook post titled 'Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, the Spirit of Roh Moo-hyun, and Aware Citizens' that "it is time to rearm ourselves with the spirit of Roh Moo-hyun."
Regarding regulatory T cells, the research topic for this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, she explained, "Immune cells lose their judgment and attack the healthy cells in my body, which leads to autoimmune diseases. At this point, regulatory T cells inform the immune cells, 'Don't attack! This is your body,' thus protecting healthy cells."
She continued, "Under certain conditions, insidious cancer cells disguise themselves as my body's cells and lure regulatory T cells. Regulatory T cells, brainwashed by cancer cells, defend cancer cells from immune cells, allowing the cancer cells to grow rapidly."
She then argued, "While engaged in the movement to normalize the media, I always thought that 'malicious fabricated information is like cancer cells that sicken society's values and made considerable efforts, but with little effect. The conclusion is one: we must not lose our judgment. Let us act as intelligent regulatory T cells through the organized power of aware citizens (깨시민)."
In response, Rep. Kwak wrote on Facebook, "To prevent misunderstandings, I would like to say something. Roh Moo-hyun's politics prioritizes the interests of the community over personal gain. He charged forward towards values for our future, not making choices for present gains."
He continued, "Pursuing self-interest while disregarding values, making choices for personal gain rather than the community's benefit, and harming the interests of others and the community's values for one's own gain is not the spirit of Roh Moo-hyun. At the very least, the whims of a peddler are not the spirit of Roh Moo-hyun," he criticized.
Currently, Rep. Choi's post can no longer be found on Facebook. It appears to have been set to private or deleted after the controversy surrounding Rep. Kwak's rebuttal spread.
This is not the first public clash between Rep. Choi and Rep. Kwak.
Last month, when Rep. Kwak posted an article titled 'YouTube Power Wields Political Power,' Rep. Choi posted a rebuttal calling Rep. Kwak's actions 'blindly following others,' and it is known that related debates also took place in a group Telegram chat among party members.
Amidst this, the People Power Party intensified its calls for Rep. Choi's resignation, citing controversies surrounding her child's wedding and alleged 'abuse of power' during the MBC parliamentary audit.
In a statement, People Power Party spokesperson Son Bum-gyu criticized, "Metaphors like 'cancer cells are false information, the spirit of Roh Moo-hyun is regulatory T cells' are self-justification to evade political responsibility." He urged her to offer a sincere apology and make a responsible decision instead of using such metaphors.
He added, "Before mentioning the spirit of Roh Moo-hyun, Rep. Choi should learn common sense and responsibility."
