Choi Soo-jin. 2025.10.29 pdj6635@yna.co.kr

The People Power Party stated on the 31st that Choi Min-hee, a lawmaker of the Democratic Party and chairman of the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Future Planning Committee, should "immediately resign from her position as committee chairman, not end this with a vague apology," in response to her apology regarding the controversy surrounding her daughter's wedding.

In a statement that day, Floor Leader and Senior Deputy Spokesperson Choi Eun-seok said, "Although Rep. Choi belatedly apologized for the controversy surrounding her daughter's 'power-abuse wedding,' it was merely a formal apology that mocked the public."

He criticized, "Rep. Choi's case is no longer a simple moral controversy but has clearly escalated into allegations of criminal wrongdoing. Rep. Choi has been accused of receiving a total of 8 million won in cash and valuables from eight individuals under the pretext of her child's marriage. This is an unprecedented case of power-abuse wedding corruption where a public official's authority and position have been turned into a channel for private gain."

Floor Leader and Senior Deputy Spokesperson Choi emphasized, "It is time to realize that this is not the time to watch public opinion, but the time to humbly stand before the judgment of the law. Declaring immediate resignation to the public is the last remaining conscience of a public servant."

The previous day, as she concluded the committee's parliamentary audit, Rep. Choi stated regarding the controversy surrounding her daughter's wedding, "I apologize to the public. I deeply regret and am disappointed that I did not manage this better to prevent such controversy from arising. It is my fault." Yonhap News
