'Lee Sun-kyun Investigation Information Leak' Alleged Police Officer's Warrant Examination. Yonhap News. 

Prosecutors have requested a prison sentence for a former police officer accused of leaking investigation information related to actor Lee Sun-kyun (48), who died while under investigation for drug use.

According to legal sources on the 3rd, prosecutors requested three years in prison for A, a former police inspector in his 30s, who was indicted on charges including official secrets disclosure, during the final hearing held today at the Incheon District Court presided over by Judge Kim Saet-byul.

The sentencing for A is scheduled to take place at the Incheon District Court on April 17th.

A is accused of leaking investigation progress data (investigation progress report) regarding Lee's drug allegations by taking photos and transmitting them to two reporters, including B, in October 2023.

The report he leaked was prepared by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit on October 18, 2023, and contained personal information of the suspect in Lee's drug case, such as name, criminal record, status, and occupation.

A local entertainment media outlet, which received the data from B, reported on the edited version of the report, including photos and content, on December 28, 2023, the day after Lee's death.

Subsequently, A, who was dismissed from his position, filed a lawsuit against the Commissioner of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency to nullify his dismissal but lost in the first trial.

Meanwhile, C, a 40-something prosecutor's investigator from the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office, who provided information about actor Lee's investigation progress to a local newspaper reporter, has also been indicted and is on trial.
