On the 9th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated the legitimacy of his tariff policy, telling the U.S. Supreme Court, "Tariffs can provide each American with $2,000 in dividends and pay off the U.S. debt of $37 trillion."

Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that day, "Companies are flocking to the United States solely because of tariffs. Has the Supreme Court not heard this? What on earth is going on?"

Trump has been consistently emphasizing that the U.S. president has the authority to impose tariffs since the Supreme Court began its review of the legality of tariff imposition last week.

Trump stated, "Let's confirm if this is correct. The U.S. President can stop all trade with foreign countries, and Congress has fully approved this, which is much harder than imposing tariffs. And the U.S. President can grant licenses to foreign countries. But (according to the Supreme Court) the U.S. President cannot impose even a simple tariff on foreign countries, even for national security reasons."

He continued, "This is not what our great Founding Fathers envisioned. It's completely absurd. Other countries can impose tariffs on us, and we can't impose them on them? This is their dream."

In another post published earlier, Trump criticized those who oppose tariffs, calling them "fools." He added, "We are now the richest and most respected nation in the world, with almost no inflation and record-high stock market prices."

He also mentioned, "401ks are at an all-time high. We are making trillions of dollars and will soon begin paying off the enormous debt of $37 trillion. Factories are being built everywhere as record investments pour into the United States. Everyone, except the high-income earners, will receive dividends of at least $2,000 (approximately 2.86 million won)."

After listing these benefits derived from tariffs, Trump continued, "Without tariffs, we cannot have any of these things."

Regarding the government shutdown, which has reached its 40th day, he urged the ruling Republican Party to "abolish the filibuster. The Democrats will do so the moment they get the chance. End the shutdown and pass great policies. Then win the mid-term elections. It's really easy. Be a wise party, not a foolish one."

This implies that the Republican Party, which holds a majority with 53 seats in Congress, should force through the passage of legislation by abolishing the filibuster, which requires a minimum of 60 votes for passage.
