26-Year-Old Korean International Student Passes Japanese Bar Exam

A Korean student studying in Japan has passed the Japanese bar exam, drawing attention from legal circles.


The protagonist is Mr. Hwang Yun-tae (26).


Mr. Hwang began his studies in Japan when he moved to Osaka in 2014 with his father, who was assigned to Japan during his first year of high school.


After graduating from Keio University's Faculty of Law, he is currently enrolled in Osaka University's Graduate School of Law (Law School).


Mr. Hwang returned to Korea in 2017, during his first year of university, completed his military service, and then began preparing for the bar exam in earnest.


Mr. Hwang said, "The most challenging aspect of preparing for the Japanese bar exam was quickly acquiring the language skills necessary to understand precedents and legal philosophy, as my study abroad period was not long." He added, "I plan to decide my future career path after gaining practical experience as a lawyer in Japan."
