Samsung Group will invest a total of 450 trillion won over the next five years, including domestic research and development (R&D).

The company plans to make comprehensive regional investments, such as commencing the construction of the fifth plant at Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek campus, the world's largest semiconductor production hub, and building an AI data center in Jeonnam.

Despite deepening global economic uncertainty, the company plans to hire 60,000 new employees over the next five years and contribute to job creation for young people through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 16th that it recently held a temporary management committee meeting and decided to proceed with the framework construction of Line 5 (5th plant) in the second complex of the Pyeongtaek campus.

The fifth plant at the Pyeongtaek campus is scheduled to begin full-scale operations in 2028.

Through this, Samsung Electronics expects to be able to respond to the anticipated increase in demand for memory semiconductors in the medium to long term, driven by expanded global AI infrastructure investment.

Samsung Group is also expanding investment in non-metropolitan areas for balanced regional development.

Samsung SDS will build a large-scale AI data center in Jeonnam. Samsung SDS is the primary contractor for the SPC (Special Purpose Company) consortium that will build the national AI computing center.

The AI data center plans to secure 15,000 GPUs by 2028 and supply them to academia, startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Samsung Electronics will build a Korean production line for FläktGroup (Fläkt), Europe's largest air handling unit manufacturer, which it completed acquiring in early November.

Fläkt is considering establishing a production line in Gwangju Metropolitan City and is also pursuing an increase in its workforce.

Through this, Samsung plans to expand synergy by combining its individual air handling business with Fläkt's central air handling business.

In addition, Samsung SDI is pursuing plans to establish a domestic production base for next-generation batteries, including solid-state batteries, often referred to as the 'dream battery'. The Ulsan plant is being considered as a likely candidate.

Samsung Display is building an 8.6-generation OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) production facility for IT devices at its Asan campus in Chungnam. After beginning trial operations by the end of this year, the company plans to mass-produce display products for IT devices around the middle of next year.

Since 2022, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been investing to enhance production capacity in Busan, a key location for high-value semiconductor packaging substrates. The Busan plant is developing and mass-producing high-difficulty packaging substrates for servers.

Samsung Group plans to take the lead in addressing youth unemployment by hiring 60,000 new employees over the next five years.

In addition to direct hiring, the company is creating over 8,000 jobs directly and indirectly through various 'youth education and social contribution programs' such as ▲ SSAFY (Samsung Software and AI Academy for Youth) ▲ Hope Dydumdol 2.0 ▲ C-Lab Outside ▲ Youth Hope Hub (Regional Youth Support Program).

Samsung Group also provides low-interest loans to alleviate the financial burden on its partner companies.

As of the first half of this year, 2.0321 trillion won has been provided to 1,051 partner companies. Partner companies can obtain loans at low interest rates for funds needed for facility investment, technology development, and operating capital.

In addition, the company is also providing interest-free loans for smart factory construction support and safety/environmental investment costs to small and medium-sized partner companies.

Since 2010, the company has been providing incentives to improve work quality, boost morale, and prevent safety accidents for employees of partner companies working at semiconductor and display production sites. The total amount of incentives paid by the first half of this year is 814.6 billion won.
