The United States heightened its military pressure on Venezuela to the highest level on November 16 (local time) by deploying the world's most powerful aircraft carrier to the Caribbean Sea.

The U.S. Navy announced in a press release from the "Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group" public affairs office via its website that day, "The carrier strike group, led by the world's largest Ford carrier, entered the Caribbean Sea on the 16th, transiting the Anegada Passage."

It further explained, "This maritime operation within the area of responsibility of the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) was carried out as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth instructed the carrier strike group to support the President's order to dismantle transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) and counter drug trafficking to defend the homeland."

The statement added, "This carrier strike group will join the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group and its embarked Marine Expeditionary Unit, which are already deployed in the Caribbean Sea, as part of the 'Southern Spear' joint task force established to counter and dismantle criminal organizations exploiting our borders and maritime domains."

The U.S. Navy stated that the Ford Carrier Strike Group will support Southern Command operations, Department of Defense directed operations, interdiction of illicit drug trafficking, and the President's priority of defending the homeland.

The deployment of the world's most powerful carrier strike group to the Venezuelan coast by the Trump administration, which has previously deployed warships and fighter jets to the Caribbean and sunk suspected drug vessels, is seen as an escalation to maximize pressure on President Nicolás Maduro's regime in Venezuela.

President Trump has repeatedly denounced the Maduro regime as a dictatorship that encourages or aids drug trafficking from Venezuela to the United States by international criminal organizations.

The Trump administration's military buildup in the Caribbean represents the largest deployment of forces in that maritime region since the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989.

According to the Associated Press, the Ford Carrier Strike Group's deployment brings the number of U.S. Navy vessels involved in the Southern Spear operation to more than ten, with a total of 12,000 personnel.

Secretary Hegseth stated on the 13th regarding the Southern Spear operation, "We are defending our homeland, driving drug terrorists out of our hemisphere, and protecting our homeland from the drugs that kill our citizens." However, attention is focused on whether the Trump administration will take direct military action against Venezuela.

The deployment of a carrier strike group implies the capability to strike deep into Venezuelan territory with fighter jets.

President Trump has also previously suggested the possibility of ground military operations in Venezuela, stating his intention to "block the flow of drugs through land routes" beyond shooting down suspected drug vessels.

Reports have emerged that key officials in the Trump administration have held a series of closed-door meetings at the White House recently to consider military operations against Venezuela, and President Trump himself stated on the 14th that he had "made up his mind to some extent" regarding the next steps targeting Venezuela.
