[Graphic] Japanese House of Councillors Election Results (Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jae-yoon = Japan's ruling parties failed to maintain their target of a majority of seats in the House of Councillors (upper house) election held on the 20th, losing a significant portion of their governing power. According to Japanese media reports on the morning of the 21st, the Liberal Democratic Party secured only 39 seats and the Komeito secured 8 seats in this election (final results for proportional representation seats are undecided). The two parties combined secured a total of 47 seats.
