The police, which have been criticized for their reckless investigation into former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn, who has been at the forefront of investigating election fraud, have sent the former Prime Minister to the prosecution without detention.
According to legal circles on the 26th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Crime Investigation Unit recently sent the case to the prosecution without detention, claiming that former Prime Minister Hwang allegedly established a pseudo-organization in violation of the Public Official Election Act and requested a reassessment by a higher authority.
The police allege that former Prime Minister Hwang illegally conducted election campaigns by operating the 'Election Fraud and Corruption Prevention Corps' (Bu-bang-dae) during the 21st presidential election.
The National Election Commission filed a complaint against former Prime Minister Hwang on May 27, one week before the presidential election, on charges of violating the election law.
The police have been criticized for conducting the investigation with a predetermined conclusion, such as by searching the headquarters of the Freedom and Innovation Party, which is unrelated to Bu-bang-dae, or by damaging the door of the former Prime Minister's residence. Criticism has also been consistently raised that the police have not even properly investigated serious matters that could lead to the death penalty, such as election fraud, and have remained inactive.
Meanwhile, according to former Prime Minister Hwang's side, the relevant authorities conducted forensic analysis on the seized items taken from former Prime Minister Hwang on this day.
Earlier, former Prime Minister Hwang emphasized after his arrest warrant requested by the special prosecutor for insurrection was dismissed by the court on the 14th, "Justice has triumphed. Liberal democracy has won. The path for the Republic of Korea to win against the leftist regime that is collapsing the nation has now been opened."
