The trial on charges of insurrection against President Yoon Suk-yeol is giving rise to much speculation. As the testimonies of key witnesses presented by the special prosecutor for insurrection are being rejected one by one, fundamental questions are being raised about whether such a wasteful pursuit of insurrection is justifiable.
As the trial progresses, discrepancies between the witnesses' past testimonies and the facts are surfacing. It is quite a spectacle to see witnesses confessing to major matters that they did not mention during the impeachment trial, as if confessing sins. As suspicions grow that the impeachment ruling itself was based on flimsy evidence, a so-called mountain of lies, public opinion that cannot comprehend why the impeachment occurred is gradually strengthening.
In the case of former Special Warfare Commander Kwak Jong-geun, he claims to have received a direct order from President Yoon to "drag out the members of the National Assembly," but inconsistencies have arisen regarding the time of the instruction and the time of the order's issuance in the call records, calling his credibility into question and raising suspicions of external pressure.
Arguments that the testimony of former NIS Deputy Director Hong Jang-won cannot be trusted are gaining traction, particularly given the disposal of the original memo, which is a key piece of evidence, and his audacious claim that the memo was an "image downloaded from the internet."
This time, former Defense Intelligence Agency Commander Moon Sang-ho has become the center of controversy. The prosecution's true nature has been starkly revealed through the call recordings from Moon Sang-ho's black box, which was installed in the vehicle of former Defense Intelligence Agency Commander Noh Sang-won.
The prosecution's methods of altering "Section Chief" to "General" and fabricating "in-person briefing" as "martial law briefing" were exposed in court. Commander Moon Sang-ho referred to Commander Noh Sang-won by his former title, "Section Chief," but the prosecution twisted it into "General." This was to create a narrative that Noh Sang-won was an unseen power behind President Yoon.
Even more outrageous is the change from "in-person briefing" to "martial law briefing." Commander Moon Sang-ho clearly stated that he had an in-person briefing with Minister Kim Yong-hyun, but the prosecution misrepresented this as a martial law briefing in the official record. The black box clearly records "Section Chief's in-person briefing," yet the prosecution falsified it as "General's martial law briefing" to pressure Commander Moon Sang-ho.
This is sophistry, fabrication of facts, and manipulation of investigations. It is the same tactic used when Kwak Jong-geun's "operative" was changed to "member of parliament" and Hong Jang-won's "worm memo" was fabricated. They are creating something out of nothing and distorting what exists to put an innocent President Yoon in prison, a conspiracy of insurrection. These are the prosecution's manipulation forces that should be imprisoned for insurrection.
Traces of manipulation are also evident in the testimony of Police Commissioner General Jo Ji-ho. It emerged that President Yoon praised Jo Ji-ho after the lifting of martial law, saying, "Thanks to you, Commissioner, the lifting of martial law was expedited." However, it was revealed during the prosecution's investigation that someone falsely testified that this remark "sounded like a veiled threat." Jo Ji-ho firmly denied this in court, stating, "I never felt that way." This is another instance of the prosecution's manipulative behavior of fabricating facts.
Why do they seek to create a process that converges on a predetermined conclusion, even resorting to manipulation? The conclusion is already set, and they are playing a game on a prearranged board, but they are anxious because the puzzle pieces do not fit. Their haste and insistence on forcing the issue are revealing flaws everywhere.
Look at the rejection rate of arrest warrants sought by the special prosecutor for insurrection. The high rejection rate is evidence of their incompetence in investigations. Furthermore, their bullying of a Yangpyeong public official, who subsequently took their own life, into fabricating facts during the investigation has been fully exposed. This is the reality of the special prosecutor trusted by the Democratic Party.
When power is regained, these individuals must not be allowed to go unpunished. Those who attempted to imprison an innocent sitting president through linguistic manipulation, fabrication of facts, and manipulation of investigations must be brought to court on charges of insurrection.
The judiciary must read this public sentiment. The fabrications involving Kwak Jong-geun, Hong Jang-won, the perjury of Han Duck-soo, and the manipulation concerning Moon Sang-ho have all been exposed. Now, only the resumption of Lee Jae-myung's trial can set justice right.
