President Donald Trump strongly criticized the judge presiding over a lawsuit filed by Harvard University seeking to reclaim billions of dollars in federal government aid.
He predicted that the government would lose the lawsuit, but also declared that he would appeal and block further funding to Harvard University.
Oral arguments began Monday in Boston regarding a lawsuit filed by Harvard University to recover approximately $2.6 billion in research funds that were cut by the Trump administration.
The government is demanding that Harvard University comply with several conditions, including addressing antisemitism on campus and external oversight of its hiring and admissions.
Federal Judge Allison Burroughs is also overseeing Harvard's lawsuit against the administration's decision to block visas for international students, having issued a temporary restraining order against the administration's plan last month.
"The Harvard suit was just opened in Massachusetts before a judge that was appointed by Obama," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday. "She is a total disaster. I said that before I even heard her rulings. She has a very organized take over on many Harvard matters, and it's a loss for our country!"
Judge Burroughs was appointed as a federal judge by former President Barack Obama in 2014. She is well-known for dismissing a lawsuit by Asian American students who opposed Harvard's discriminatory policies that they claimed encouraged racial discrimination in admissions.
"Harvard has $52 Billion in the bank, yet they, the Anti-Semites, the Anti-Christians, and the Anti-American's, are pushing their Sick Political Agendas," Trump added. "This money comes from American Taxpayers, and it is hurting other Universities, Colleges and Institutions that are not able to operate like this. We will not allow this unfair situation to continue."
Trump also raised suspicions, questioning, "How did a Trump hating judge get assigned to this case?"
Most cases are assigned randomly. Similar questions have been raised about Federal Judge James Boasberg, who has presided over several cases involving the Trump administration, according to Newsmax. Judge Boasberg presided over lawsuits concerning mass deportations and the handling of the Signal app under due process for foreigners, and has shown a stance unfavorable to the Trump administration.
Judge Boasberg was also nominated as a federal judge by former President Barack Obama.
"If the judge rules against us, we will immediately appeal and we will surely win. The government will also stop the practice of giving billions of dollars to Harvard, much of it without explanation. This is a long-standing commitment to fairness in educational funding, and the Trump administration will not stop until there is a victory!" he vowed.
