Russia has never discussed a Korean Peninsula-style solution for a ceasefire in Ukraine mediated by the United States, Yuri Ushakov, assistant to the Kremlin's foreign policy chief, said on the 14th (local time).

According to TASS and RIA Novosti, Ushakov told state television journalist Pavel Zarubin in an interview that day, "We have discussed various options for a long-term solution, but the possibility of emulating the Korean option has never been discussed."

This appears to be a refutation of reports by Western media, including the US Washington Post (WP) and the UK Financial Times (FT), which stated that a plan to create a Korean Peninsula-style demilitarized zone (DMZ) in the eastern front lines was recently discussed as the US Trump administration mediates ceasefire negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

Ushakov strongly denied the reports, stating, "We have never discussed it. I have never even heard of such a thing."

Ahead of ceasefire talks between the US, Ukraine, and major European countries on December 14-15, the Kremlin has been launching an offensive against the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Ukraine.

Ushakov said that if Ukraine makes unacceptable amendments regarding territorial issues, Russia will strongly oppose them.

"We haven't seen (Ukraine's latest proposal) yet, but we will strongly oppose any corresponding amendments," he emphasized. "We have made our position very clear, and the US side seems to understand it."

Ushakov also stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will not be able to achieve his goals of returning Crimea and joining NATO.

Furthermore, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, also told journalist Zarubin in an interview that regarding comments made by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, "These are the words of someone representing a generation that has forgotten what World War II was truly like."

This is a reaction to Rutte's statement on the 11th, "Russia's next target is us. We must prepare for a war on the scale our grandfathers and great-grandfathers experienced," urging NATO's European member states to rearm.

Peskov criticized, "They have not understood at all, and unfortunately, Secretary General Rutte made a highly irresponsible statement."
