The special prosecutor announced, "We have transferred the case of the prosecution's immediate appeal waiver to the National Police Agency's Investigation Bureau." Yonhap News file photo.
The 'Rebellion Special Prosecutor Team' (led by Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok), investigating the 12.3 emergency martial law, announced on the 15th that the alleged dispatch of a prosecutor from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to the National Election Commission on the day martial law was declared was, in fact, not true.
On the morning of the 1st, the special prosecutor's team raided and searched the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's Scientific Investigation Division office, located within the National Digital Forensics Center at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office building in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
At the time, the special prosecutor's team stated, "It was not a discovery of something new. We conducted a factual verification of the allegations that prosecutors were dispatched to the National Election Commission, and it was deemed necessary to investigate more thoroughly." They added, "This was an evidence collection aimed at securing evidence regarding that matter."
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor's team has transferred the case of Shim Woo-jung, former Prosecutor General, who was accused of waiving an immediate appeal despite the decision to quash the arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol, to the National Police Agency's Investigation Bureau.
This is in accordance with the Special Prosecutor Act, which stipulates that cases not handled within the investigation period are transferred to the National Police Agency's Investigation Bureau. This case was transferred to the special prosecutor team investigating rebellion in June by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.
