'Daejang-dong & Baekhyeon-dong Investigation Lead' Ko Hyung-gon, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Suwon High Prosecutors' Office, Resigns

Resignation post on internal network... "The prosecution will wisely overcome these difficult times"

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporters Lee Bo-bae and Kwon Hee-won = Ko Hyung-gon (31st class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Suwon High Prosecutors' Office (prosecutor general level), who led the investigation into the Daejang-dong and Baekhyeon-dong development corruption allegations involving President Lee Jae-myung, expressed his intent to resign on the 24th.

In a post uploaded to e-Pros, the prosecution's internal network, Deputy Chief Prosecutor Ko stated his intention to resign, saying, "The two characters 'resignation' were always in my heart while I was in public office, and now I am finally putting it into action."

Ko said, "I feel deeply sorry for bidding farewell during such a difficult and challenging time for everyone," adding, "However, because I know better than anyone the excellence and potential of the members of the prosecution, I trust that we will wisely overcome these difficulties and continue to remain a prosecution for the people that protects human rights and upholds social justice."

He reflected, "Personally, the position of a prosecutor was always overwhelming and difficult while I was working," and added, "I blamed my own lack of ability, but I tried my best every day with the hope that I would not be a burden to those I worked with."

Finally, he said, "There is a phrase I reflect on and draw strength from whenever times are tough and difficult," and introduced a quote from the 'Jinsirok' (Reflections on Things at Hand), a book in which the Neo-Confucian master Zhu Xi compiled the achievements of his predecessor scholars: "Poverty, hardship, sorrow, and worry will perfect you like a gem."

After being appointed as the 4th Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in May 2022, Ko led investigations into allegations of development corruption in Daejang-dong and Baekhyeon-dong and the 'presidential election interference media manipulation' case involving President Lee, who was then the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. He was promoted and transferred to the position of Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Suwon High Prosecutors' Office in May of last year.
