Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, stated on Wednesday, the 23rd, that former President Barack Obama will be subject to a Justice Department investigation regarding allegations that he orchestrated a "coup" attempt against President Donald Trump immediately following the 2016 election.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference that afternoon, Gabbard said, "I am going to turn this document over to the FBI for them to conduct a criminal investigation," responding with "Yes" when asked if Obama would be investigated.
Gabbard stated, "The evidence that we have found and released directly shows President Obama playing a leading role in this intelligence assessment," adding, "There is significant evidence and intelligence to support this."

Earlier that morning, she released documents on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "New evidence has emerged of the most notorious weaponization and politicization of intelligence in American history." She continued, "At the direction of President Donald Trump, I have declassified the majority of the House Intelligence Committee's report. This report reveals that the Obama administration manipulated the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment to promote the false narrative that Vladimir Putin and the Russian government helped President Trump win the 2016 election."
She further stated, "They used this to undermine the will of the American people, colluded with the media to spread lies, delegitimized President Trump, and effectively led a coup against him for years."
Gabbard released a 46-page report on the same day, titled "Key Elements of the Obama Russia Hoax."
Newsmax reported that Gabbard did not use the phrase "treason" in her statements, though she suggested an investigation into it.
"I will leave criminal prosecution up to the Department of Justice," Gabbard said. "I am not a prosecutor, but as I said, when you look at the intent behind the creation of a fraudulent document that directly contradicts multiple intelligence assessments, the intent and subsequent actions can only be described as a coup, a traitorous conspiracy, and an effort to take down President Trump's administration for years against the American people and the Republic."
Director Gabbard stated when questioned by the Senate Intelligence Committee, "We have released nearly 200 pages of documents so far," adding, "This includes statements from senior intelligence professionals who are currently serving at these agencies, and this supports the conclusions we have reached."
She continued, "President Obama solicited an assessment from the intelligence agencies to further disseminate this fabricated false information that led to a year-long coup aimed at undermining President Trump's presidency."
Earlier, a spokesperson for former President Obama's office stated on Tuesday, the 22nd, that Gabbard's claims were "baseless" and argued that "the documents released last week do not undermine the widely accepted conclusion that Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election, but did not manipulate any votes."
However, Gabbard stated on the 23rd that the documents she released contained information that refuted their claims.
