The won-dollar exchange rate closed at 1478.1 won per dollar on the Seoul foreign exchange market on the 14th, up 4.4 won from the previous trading day, marking the end of the weekly trading session (as of 3:30 PM).

The won-dollar exchange rate closed at 1478.1 won per dollar on the Seoul foreign exchange market on the 14th, up 4.4 won from the previous trading day, marking the end of the weekly trading session (as of 3:30 PM).
Park Seong-hoon, Senior Spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a commentary on the 14th, "Concerns are growing that the exchange rate instability is hardening into a structural problem rather than a temporary fluctuation," adding, "The government has been forcibly suppressing it by mobilizing market intervention and various measures, but it has reached its limit."
He further criticized, "This is not simply due to external variables, but rather proof that the government's response is failing to restore market confidence."
Spokesperson Park urged the Lee Jae-myung administration, "Excessive intervention by the foreign exchange authorities will only provide grounds for designation as a 'currency manipulator' by the United States," and requested that they "clearly present a mid-to-long-term strategy to strengthen the economic structure."
Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, also expressed concern about the repeated "exchange rate yo-yo" phenomenon and proposed a "Chief Exchange Rate Officer."
On Facebook on the 14th, Ahn stated, "Just as weight lost rapidly through extreme dieting inevitably returns, the exchange rate will inevitably repeat its rebounds unless the economy's muscles are strengthened."
He further emphasized, "The exchange rate is a comprehensive evaluation by global stakeholders of a country's overall fiscal policy, growth, industry, and strategy. High exchange rates are the cumulative result of △ expanding fiscal deficits △ structural low growth △ anti-business environments centered on regulation △ and uncertain external trade strategies."
He also pointed out, "The very idea of trying to suppress the exchange rate through 'management' ignores the essence of the problem. The decoupling phenomenon where exchange rates and stock prices move separately is also a significant issue."
Ahn proposed solutions such as "a sophisticated combination of fiscal and monetary policies, substantial strengthening of the foreign exchange safety net, and a transition in the economic structure."
In conclusion, the People Power Party argues that stock market gains without improving the overall economic structure will ultimately lead to greater side effects and negatively impact the economy as a whole.
