The Dismal Reality of the ROK-US Alliance Caused by Lee Jae-myung and Election Fraud Deniers

In July 2025, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued an unprecedented directive to all U.S. diplomatic missions worldwide, ordering them to 'refrain from making statements regarding elections.' While the stated reason was to maintain diplomatic neutrality, the reality was different. Washington's internal assessment was that 'South Korea's electoral system is sensitive, and its government cannot provide proof of its integrity.'

This directive overlapped with the period when former Ambassador-at-Large for International Criminal Justice, Morse Tan, visited South Korea and made sensitive remarks. He questioned the legitimacy of President Lee Jae-myung's election, stating that 'South Korea is now a country that has lost its ability to provide diplomatic explanations.' Morse Tan later clarified that 'remarks are not subject to the directive if they align with national interests,' implying that the Trump camp either condoned these remarks or was strategically utilizing them.

South Korea's Silence as an 'Unexplainable Nation' Provides Pretext for US Intervention

The South Korean government remained silent. Neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Presidential Office, the ruling party, nor even the media responded. The existence of the Rubio memo was barely covered by domestic media. This is the current reality of South Korea's diplomacy and the unverified face of its democracy.

The Lee Jae-myung administration, and indeed previous administrations, have never undergone a public verification process regarding the integrity of electronic voting machines, the non-disclosure of server codes, QR code leaks, or allegations of ballot tampering. Only former President Yoon Suk-yeol, to be precise, is the only president who has raised this issue.

Citizens who claimed election fraud were criminally prosecuted, and observers who raised concerns were instead reported to the election commission. As a result of suppressing all challenges under the frame of 'conspiracy theories,' South Korea has become a nation that cannot even respond when foreign diplomats question its elections.

The United States seized this silence as an opportunity. During the ROK-US 2+2 meeting in late 2024, the scope of Article 3 of the Mutual Defense Treaty was extended to the cyber and space domains, stipulating 'technological transparency' as a condition for maintaining the alliance. This signifies that the technical reliability of elections has become a security issue and a condition for alliance maintenance.

Unverified Democracy Breeds Alliance Imbalance

As of 2025, the United States has concluded that the South Korean government lacks the capacity to demonstrate the 'transparency and security of its electoral system.' Under the 'OBBBA Act,' it has the right to justify its own judgment and actions regarding the possibility of undue interference within allied nations. This is a loss of diplomatic sovereignty and a sign of a controlled alliance.

The Lee Jae-myung administration speaks of democracy, but this democracy is unverified, unexplained, and currently maintained through silence. The cracks in the ROK-US alliance are not a matter of diplomatic strategy but a consequence of ignoring the truth of the elections.

To restore trust, questions must first be allowed, and verification must commence. Otherwise, South Korea will become a 'country that cannot explain itself' on the international stage, and the alliance will no longer be equal. The United States does not wait.
