Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, predicted that trillions of dollars more will be needed in the future to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

Speaking in a dialogue with Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on the 21st (local time), Huang stated, "The AI craze has launched the largest infrastructure build-out in human history," adding, "Hundreds of billions of dollars have been invested so far, but trillions of dollars more in infrastructure need to be added," according to AFP and Bloomberg News.

He cited energy, chip/computing infrastructure, cloud data centers, AI models, and applications as areas of AI infrastructure requiring such investment, likening it to a "five-layer cake" built from the bottom up.

He further emphasized that this structure will lead to job creation across the economy, from construction and manufacturing to software, driven by AI advancements.

He predicted that "plumbers, electricians, and construction workers could earn six-figure salaries" thanks to the demand for data center construction.

He particularly foresaw the greatest economic benefits emerging from AI software, the applications at the very top layer.

He also dismissed the "AI bubble theory" raised by some.

"The AI bubble is occurring because the scale of investment is large, and the scale of investment is large because we need to build AI infrastructure that spans five layers," he said. "I think this opportunity is truly special."

He also asserted that "AI is essential national infrastructure," arguing that all countries should treat AI like electricity or roads.

He suggested that AI could provide developing countries with opportunities to narrow the technology gap with developed nations, and to effectively utilize this, education in "AI literacy" – how to use AI – is necessary.

Bloomberg News reported that despite criticism from Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, the previous day, stating that selling Nvidia chips to China is akin to selling nuclear weapons to North Korea, CEO Fink, who moderated the session, avoided sensitive questions related to China.

Meanwhile, Sarah Fryer, CFO of OpenAI, defended the decision to introduce advertising into ChatGPT at the WEF that day, calling it a measure to "democratize" access to AI technology.

"Our mission is to develop 'Artificial General Intelligence' (AGI) for all of humanity, not for humanity that can afford to pay," she defended, adding that to achieve this, "building a strong business model is necessary."

Responding to Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, who commented the previous day that it was "interesting they chose that path so early," Fryer countered, "We have 800 million monthly active users, which is much later than other companies that have introduced advertising models."
