U.S. President Trump [AFP Yonhap News]
U.S. President Donald Trump warned on the 4th (local time) against Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, saying, "He should be very worried."
According to Reuters, President Trump made these remarks in an interview with NBC News on the same day.
This is seen as President Trump reaffirming that military attack options against Iran are still valid, as negotiations between the United States and Iran, scheduled for the 6th, appear to be on the verge of collapse due to issues such as the venue.
Regarding the possibility of lowering interest rates, President Trump reiterated his stance, saying, "I think interest rates will go down. Interest rates need to go down."
He added, "Our interest rates are too high," and stated, "I've always been good at handling money, and as money comes into our country, we've become a rich country again. We have debt, but we have growth, and that growth will make the debt seem very small soon."
Earlier, President Trump nominated former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh as the next chairman of the Federal Reserve (Fed).
President Trump said of nominee Warsh, "He will want to lower interest rates anyway," adding, "If he had come and said, 'I want to raise interest rates,' he wouldn't have gotten the job."
Regarding immigration policy, President Trump said, "I've realized that perhaps a softer touch might be needed," but also stated, "But we still have to be tough."
This is interpreted as President Trump suggesting that he may show some flexibility in immigration policy, while maintaining a tough stance, amidst escalating public backlash following the shooting deaths of two civilians by federal immigration agents in Minnesota.
