Lawyer Lee Ha-sang responds to reporters' questions [Photo=Yonhap News] 

Lawyer Lee Ha-sang, who was detained based on Judge Lee Jin-kwan's claim of causing a disturbance in court, has sought a legal ruling from the Supreme Court to halt the execution of his detention.

According to legal circles on the 5th, lawyer Lee Ha-sang, who has been representing Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, filed a motion for suspension of detention execution with the Supreme Court on the 3rd.

It is understood that the motion for suspension of execution was filed with the same court as the Supreme Court reviews the appeal filed by lawyer Lee's side, which disputes the detention.

Previously, the Criminal Division 33 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Jin-kwan) sentenced lawyer Lee to 15 days of detention on November 19th of last year for failing to comply with an order to leave the courtroom and causing a disturbance.

Lawyer Lee's side appealed this decision, but the Criminal Division 20 of the Seoul High Court (Senior Presiding Judge Hong Dong-gi) dismissed the appeal, stating that the original court's measure did not exceed its discretion. Lawyer Lee's side subsequently filed a further appeal to the Supreme Court.

Although the court initially ordered the execution of detention on the day of the sentencing, the Seoul Detention Center refused to accommodate them, citing unspecified personal details. Consequently, the actual detention was postponed to the 3rd of this month. 

Lawyer Lee, a former prosecutor who is representing Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, is a star lawyer who has gained significant support from the general public through his YouTube channel "The Advancing Lawyer," where he incisively exposes the falsehoods of the left and sharply points out their contradictions.

Detention refers to the act of confining a person who has violated court order in a prison or detention center for a certain period, as ordered by the presiding judge.
