U.S. President Donald Trump [Reuters Yonhap News]
The White House on the 13th (local time) welcomed the release of inflation indicators showing a slower-than-expected decline, boasting that President Donald Trump's economic policies, including tariffs, have been successful.
In a press release on the same day, the White House stated, "Today's lower-than-expected Consumer Price Index (CPI) report proves that President Trump has defeated Biden's inflation crisis."
The U.S. Department of Labor announced that the CPI for January rose 2.4% year-on-year, the lowest increase in eight months since May of last year.
In particular, the core CPI, excluding volatile energy and food prices, rose 2.5%, marking the lowest increase in four years and 10 months since March 2021.
The White House emphasized, "President Trump's America First policy continues to control inflation without any evidence of surge due to tariffs."
The White House also highlighted that wage growth is outpacing inflation and that prices of major goods have declined.
The White House reported that while the real average hourly earnings of all private sector workers in January increased by 1.2% year-on-year, the increase was higher at 1.5% for low- to middle-income earners.
It was claimed that "In President Trump's first year in office, real income for all private sector workers outpaced inflation by approximately $1,400, recovering some of the nearly $3,000 lost during the Biden administration."
The White House also stated, "President Trump is bringing tangible (price) relief at the checkout counter, pharmacy, and gas station," announcing that prices for beef, eggs, coffee, gasoline, used cars, and prescription drugs have fallen.
