(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Gyu-jin = The Democratic Party launched the "Comprehensive Response Special Committee for Three Special Prosecutor Investigations" on the 30th to counter and support special prosecutor investigations at the party level.
Jeon Hyun-hee, the overall committee chair, said at the committee's inauguration ceremony held at the National Assembly on the same day, "We will do our utmost to ensure that special prosecutor investigations proceed without setbacks and to restore the constitutional order and judicial justice that the Yoon Suk-yeol administration has destroyed."
Chairman Jeon emphasized, "Special prosecutor investigations are about pursuing evidence and criminal charges to find the perpetrators, thereby establishing justice and correcting the judicial order. We declare that we will actively respond to any actions that interfere with the investigations, considering them criminal acts."
He added, "We will respond to actions that interfere with special prosecutor investigations and indirectly support them. If necessary, we will provide support at the National Assembly level, such as improving systems and legislation. We will also actively respond to requests for extension of investigation periods."
Specifically, he stated, "Recently, arrest warrants requested by special prosecutors have been continuously rejected. If necessary, we will supplement them by amending the special prosecutor law. If special prosecutor investigations are effectively hindered by the courts, we may also consider a special inspection for rebellion."
Kim Byung-joo, the committee member in charge of the special prosecutor investigations for rebellion and the deceased Marine, said, "We will concentrate all our capabilities to ensure that special prosecutor investigations uncover the truth and proceed steadily in the right direction. We will actively publicize what can be disclosed to ensure that justice is established."
The committee consists of 46 members, including lawmakers and former regional committee chairs. Representative Park Sun-won will serve as the lead for the special prosecutor investigation into rebellion, while Representatives Jang Kyung-tae and Jeon Yong-gi will lead the special prosecutor investigations for Kim Keon-hee and the deceased Marine, respectively.
Led by Representative Baek Hye-ryeon, who heads the Tip Center, the committee will also engage in receiving tips and protecting whistleblowers. Yonhap News
