U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 28th (local time) that "the U.S. government has just launched a major battle within Iran," Reuters reported. 

The U.S. Department of Defense has named the operation 'Operation Epic Fury'. 

Fortune magazine's online edition reported that the United States and Israel have launched airstrikes against Iran.

The Times of Israel also confirmed that President Trump approved the launch of a major battle.

In an 8-minute video statement posted on his Truth Social account on the same day, President Trump stated, "Our goal is to protect the American people by eliminating the imminent threat from the very evil and horrific Iranian regime."

He added, "Iran has attempted to rebuild its nuclear program," and pointed out, "Iran must never possess nuclear weapons."

He also warned, "Iran is developing long-range missiles that threaten the United States and other countries. We will destroy their missiles and completely dismantle their missile industry."

A U.S. official also stated that the U.S. is carrying out strike operations against Iran by sea and air, Reuters reported.
