(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Se-won = Domestic users aged 20-50 who use Over-the-Top (OTT) services subscribe to an average of about 2 platforms per person, according to a survey.

According to the latest issue of Media Survey released by the Korea Press Foundation on the 30th, an online survey conducted among 1,000 domestic OTT users from the 16th to the 21st found that the average number of OTT platforms they use is 2.34.

The proportion of respondents using one OTT service and those using two OTT services were similar, at 30.1% and 30.5% respectively, while 22.9% used three services.

When users who subscribe to two or more OTT services were asked to select all reasons, the most frequent response was "to watch exclusive (original) content," with 70.0%.

This was followed by "watching video content is a hobby" (41.6%), "using a shared account with no additional cost" (17.5%), "free service through a telecommunications carrier" (15.2%), and "reduced cost burden due to various discounts" (13.0%).

The most frequently chosen OTT service was Netflix (87.0%). Coupang Play came in second with 61.2%, followed by TVING (39.9%). Disney+ and Wavve ranked fourth and fifth with 20.5% and 18.7% respectively.

Among Netflix users, 50.8% subscribed directly to Netflix, while 29.9% utilized the partnership between Naver Plus and Netflix membership.

The Press Foundation noted the significant figure of Naver Plus's partnership rate, considering that the proportion of users subscribing to bundled telecommunications carrier and Netflix plans, traditionally a representative bundled product in the OTT market, ranked third at 7.5%.

Regarding the policies introduced by Netflix, Disney+, and TVING to limit account sharing to members of the same household and to charge additional fees for sharing with individuals living separately, 47.6% found it unfair, while 46.4% said it made no difference.

However, the proportion of Netflix users who actually paid extra fees to share accounts was found to be around 6.3%. Yonhap News
