Chinese Type 075 landing helicopter dock Hainan [CCTV Capture]
The Chinese People's Liberation Army conducted a large-scale amphibious assault training exercise involving its army, navy, air force, and rocket force, deploying landing helicopter docks and submarines.
China Central Television (CCTV) reported that the fleet of the Type 075 landing helicopter dock Hainan, belonging to the Chinese Navy's Southern Theater Command, recently conducted a multi-service joint training exercise under simulated enemy threat conditions.
However, the sea area and time of the exercise were not disclosed.
According to the report, the exercise involved multiple military services, including the navy, air force, army, and rocket force, to assess amphibious assault capabilities.
CCTV specifically highlighted the deployment of China's first Type 075 landing helicopter dock, the Hainan, in this exercise.
The Hainan, launched in 2019, is China's first landing helicopter dock and is capable of transporting large numbers of troops and equipment by operating helicopters, earning it the nickname "helicopter aircraft carrier."
With a displacement of approximately 40,000 tons, it can carry multiple transport helicopters and a substantial amount of amphibious assault equipment such as landing craft, making it a key asset targeted towards the South China Sea and Taiwan.
The training exercise involved the deployment of forces to the coast under a joint operational system with information and firepower support.
The air force provided support for the amphibious assault by striking ground targets from the air, while army troops used the landing helicopter dock to move to the coast and secure a beachhead.
The navy deployed surface ships, submarines, and marine forces to support operations at sea and underwater, and the rocket force participated in the exercise by launching missiles from land to strike sea or ground targets.
Chinese military expert Cao Weidong stated, "Joint operations where multiple military services execute a single mission simultaneously are extremely challenging," adding, "Each service must share battlefield information and accurately identify targets to cooperate."
He particularly emphasized, "The Type 075 landing helicopter dock plays a crucial role in amphibious assaults. The ability to rapidly deploy large numbers of troops and equipment to the coast in a short period requires a high level of informatization and inter-service coordination."
