The visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to China and the U.S.-China summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which were postponed due to the war with Iran, have been rescheduled for mid-May. 

At a briefing on March 25 (local time), White House Spokesperson Caroline Levitt said, "We are pleased to announce that President Trump and President Xi's long-awaited meeting will be held on May 14-15."

Levitt added, "President Trump and the First Lady, Melania, will host President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for a return visit in Washington D.C. at a date to be announced later this year."

President Trump's visit to China was originally scheduled for March 31 to April 2.

However, following President Trump's commencement of war with Iran on February 28 and the increasing possibility of the war being prolonged, President Trump stated on March 16 that he had "requested a postponement of about a month (to China)."

Since then, the two countries have been in discussions to reschedule the summit, and the date has been set approximately a month and a half later than originally planned.

When asked if the war could end by the rescheduled summit date, given that the original visit was postponed due to the war, Levitt replied, "Again, we have estimated (the duration of the Iran war) to be about 4 to 6 weeks," adding, "So you can do the math."

Associated Press interpreted this as "Levitt conveyed an optimistic tone that the war could reach its conclusion before President Trump's visit to China."

"But we are looking forward to it, and the President is looking forward to visiting China on May 14-15," she stated.

When questioned about whether the two leaders had discussed the end of the war and if that was a prerequisite for the rescheduled meeting, Levitt drew a line, saying, "No." She then responded, "President Xi understood the importance of President Trump remaining here (in the U.S.) during the combat operations period. He naturally understood and accepted the request for postponement."

In relation to this, President Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, "We are finalizing preparations for this historic visit. I am very much looking forward to my time with President Xi and am confident it will be a monumental event."

Meanwhile, Levitt reported that President Trump is scheduled to preside over the second cabinet meeting of the year and the eleventh meeting of his second term on the morning of March 26. The strategy for the war with Iran is expected to be discussed at the meeting.
