Contrary to claims by mainstream media, "MAGA" voters attending the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Texas last week continue to support President Donald Trump.

Jim McLaughlin, president of McLaughlin & Associates, which has conducted impromptu polls at CPAC events for several years, introduced several media reports as "fake news" before presenting his poll results on Saturday, the 28th.

Newsweek reported on Friday the 27th, "GOP Pivots From Trump at CPAC: 'I Can't Stand the Guy'," and Politico reported on Saturday the 28th, "War in Iran Intensifies Generational Rift Among MAGA and CPAC Supporters."

In a Saturday the 28th article, The Wall Street Journal reported, "President Trump's decision to go to war weighed heavily on the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which has served as a sort of MAGA rally demonstrating near-unanimous support for Trump and his policies. This year's conference, however, exposed rifts within Trump's MAGA base over the Middle East conflict."

As McLaughlin introduced these reports, the audience booed and shouted "No."

The first poll question presented by McLaughlin that day was: "Do you agree or disagree that many conservative leaders and influencers are stoking unnecessary controversy and division within the MAGA movement to gain attention and money, which ultimately will harm the conservative movement, President Trump, and real MAGA conservatives in the upcoming November election?"

McLaughlin explained that the point of the question was not whether there was division, but whether they agreed that these individuals were effectively trying to sabotage America First and attack the Republican Party in the upcoming election.

Eighty-eight percent of respondents agreed with this question. Sixty-two percent strongly agreed. Only 8% disagreed.

While the mainstream media claims Trump's support among conservatives has weakened, this poll showed 96% rated Trump's job performance favorably. Eighty-four percent strongly approved. Only 4% disapproved.

This is a slight decrease from the 99% approval rating before the arrest of Maduro in early January and the start of the war with Iran in late February, but President Trump has not seen his approval rating drop below 90% in the past year.

Vice President JD Vance also received a favorable job performance rating of 92%.

House Speaker Mike Johnson received a 84% favorable rating with 9% disapproving, but Senate Minority Leader John Thune received only 57% favorable and 29% unfavorable, reflecting disappointment with the recent prolonged shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security and the failure to pass the Save America Act.

Meanwhile, among the Trump administration's cabinet appointees in this poll, Secretary of State Marco Rubio had the highest popularity at 60%, followed by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth at 35 percentage points. After them were Secretary of Health and Human Services RFK Jr. (18%), Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessant (14%), Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard (11%), Attorney General Pam Bondi (9%), Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins (7%), Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum (6%), and CIA Director John Ratcliffe (5%).

Interestingly, two of the top five (RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard) were former Democrats. CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp stated, "Those two were appointed after being recognized as conservatives through CPAC and are doing a very good job."

McLaughlin analyzed, "Three of the top seven are women," adding, "This speaks to the diversity and openness of the conservative movement."

The poll results are based on responses from over 1,600 voters who presented identification during the CPAC event from March 25-28.
