Director Jang Hang-jun's film 'King and the Man' has surpassed the 16 million mark.

On the 5th, distributor Showbox announced through social media that 'King and the Man' had surpassed a cumulative audience of 16 million as of this morning.

Among domestically released films in history, only three works have been watched by over 16 million people: 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' (2014, 17.61 million), 'Extreme Job' (2019, 16.26 million), and 'King and the Man'.

'King and the Man' will rank second in box office history if it attracts an additional 260,000 viewers, surpassing the record of 'Extreme Job'.

Although the number of weekday viewers has significantly decreased to around 30,000 to 50,000, it is steadily increasing. Yesterday, which was a Saturday, saw approximately 153,000 viewers, indicating its continued box office success. However, since the 3rd, it has ceded the top box office spot to the SF blockbuster film 'Project Hail Mary'.

'King and the Man', which premiered on February 4th, became a 10 million viewer film on the 31st day, March 6th, and surpassed 15 million viewers on the 50th day, March 25th.

'King and the Man' tells the story of Yi Hong-wi (played by Park Ji-hoon), the deposed King Danjong, spending the final period of his life in exile in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province.

Instead of focusing on power struggles, the film warmly portrays Yi Hong-wi's human interactions with the village people, including the head of the village in exile, Gwangcheon-gol, Eom Heung-do (played by Yoo Hae-jin), earning acclaim from audiences of all generations.
