U.S. President Donald Trump declared on his social media platform, Truth Social, on May 5th (local time) that the deadline for Iran was Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
This is the first time President Trump has specified a time limit while threatening to turn Iran back into the Stone Age.
Earlier that day, President Trump warned via Truth Social, "Tuesday will be the day of the power plant in Iran and the day of the bridge, and all of this will come to a head," adding, "There will be no such day!!!"
He threatened, "Open the damn strait, you crazy bastards, or you will live in hell – just watch!" and added, "Praise be to Allah."
As part of the negotiations, President Trump gave Tehran a 10-day grace period to open the strait.
This warning, issued on Sunday, came just hours after a dramatic rescue operation to retrieve a downed U.S. pilot from Iranian territory on Friday.
President Trump emphasized that there were no U.S. casualties despite the 7-hour rescue operation in broad daylight, demonstrating that the U.S. military has air superiority over Iran.
The time disclosed by President Trump is 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8th, Iranian time.
