The Japanese government welcomed the two-week truce agreement between the United States and Iran on the 8th as a "positive development."

Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara stated this at a regular press conference, saying, "Japan has supported diplomatic efforts among the involved countries with the stance that the swift de-escalation of the situation, including ensuring navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz, is paramount."

He added, "What is most important is that the de-escalation of the situation, including ensuring navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz, is actually pursued moving forward. We hope that a final agreement will be reached swiftly through diplomacy."

Regarding Prime Minister Kishida's expressed intention for individual phone talks with the U.S. and Iran, Minister Kihara said, "Nothing has been concretely confirmed yet."
