U.S. President Donald Trump [AFP Yonhap News]
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to attack Iran again if negotiations for a peace agreement do not proceed as desired.
In a 1 minute and 30 second phone call with a Sky News correspondent on the 7th (local time), after announcing a surprise two-week ceasefire with Iran, President Trump described the ceasefire as a "complete victory" for the United States, but did not forget to issue a warning to Iran.
He praised the ceasefire agreement as "great. Very good," and stated, "We have achieved everything we wanted to achieve militarily."
He then emphasized the possibility of attacking Iran again at any time, saying, "If it's not good (the outcome of negotiations), we will go back (militarily) very easily at any time." This appears to be a calculation to gain leverage in future negotiations with Iran.
Regarding whether the U.S. could accept Iran's 10-point peace proposal, President Trump commented, "You don't know what those points are, but I do," adding that many of them are "very good and most have already been sufficiently negotiated."
President Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social at 6:32 PM that day, stating, "I agree to a two-week suspension of bombings and attacks on Iran on the condition that Iran agrees to the complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz."
The Supreme National Security Council of Iran also stated in a statement that Iran had won the war against the U.S. and Israel, and that the U.S. had fully accepted Iran's 10-point peace proposal.
According to Iranian media reports, the 10 points include permission for Iran to enrich uranium, Iran's control over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from all regional bases, easing of sanctions against Iran, and compensation for war damages.
However, the U.S. administration has not disclosed its specific stance on the 10 points, and President Trump merely mentioned that the 10 points served as a basis for negotiations, without stating that Iran's demands had been accepted.
