  • Minesweeping Underway... US Declares Control of Strait Secured

President Donald Trump emphasized that "procedures to swiftly open the Strait of Hormuz must begin" and, while highly appreciating Pakistan's mediation efforts, stated that "a blockade will soon commence" to prevent Iran from profiting through the strait.

President Trump made these remarks in a lengthy post on Truth Social on Sunday morning, the 12th.

He explained that while negotiations for a ceasefire had progressed smoothly, Iran ultimately did not agree to a nuclear deal. "They want money, and more importantly, nuclear weapons," he stated, adding, "We will not let Iran profit from this illegal extortion."

This refers to the Iranian regime imposing tolls on passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump's declaration to blockade the Strait of Hormuz is interpreted as the U.S. military directly taking control of the strait.

He made his intention clear to prevent this blockade from bringing revenue to Iran. He stated, "Those who illegally pay tolls cannot guarantee safe passage on the high seas," and warned, "Any Iranian who fires on us, or fires on peaceful vessels, will go to hell!"

President Trump reiterated, "We will also begin to remove the mines Iran has placed in the strait," which is interpreted as an explanation that the blockade is ultimately aimed at securing control and, in effect, ensuring safe passage.

President Trump emphasized, "We have all our weapons 'loaded,' and at the appropriate time, our military will completely annihilate the remnants left in Iran!"

The following is the full text of President Trump's Truth Social post from that day:

Iran promised to open the Strait of Hormuz, but deliberately did not uphold it. This has caused anxiety, confusion, and suffering for many people and countries worldwide. Iran claims to have laid mines, but most of their naval vessels and mine-laying ships have already been completely destroyed. Whether they actually laid mines or not, what ship owner would want to risk such danger? Iran and the reputation of their remaining leaders have suffered serious disgrace and permanent damage, but we don't need to be bogged down by such issues anymore. As they promised, procedures to swiftly open this international waterway must begin! They are violating all laws. I have received a detailed report from Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner about the meetings held in Islamabad under the excellent and competent leadership of General Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan. They are truly extraordinary individuals and constantly thank me for saving 30 to 50 million lives in the terrible war with India. I always feel grateful when I hear such words. The humanity they show is immeasurable.

The meetings with Iran began early in the morning and continued through the night, lasting nearly 20 hours. While I could go into detail about many things achieved in the meetings, only one thing is important: Iran has no intention of abandoning its nuclear ambitions! The agreements reached in many respects are better than us carrying out military operations to the end, but all of that is nothing compared to preventing nuclear weapons from falling into the hands of fickle, difficult, and unpredictable people. As time went on, my three representatives, as expected, showed a very friendly and respectful attitude towards the Iranian representatives Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi, and Ali Bagheri. But that doesn't matter, because they did not yield an inch on the most important issue. As I have always said from the beginning, and for years, Iran will never possess nuclear weapons!

Now, as you can see, the meetings went smoothly and most matters were agreed upon, but one truly crucial point, the nuclear issue, was not. The U.S. Navy, the world's premier navy, will immediately commence blockade measures on all ships entering and exiting the Strait of Hormuz. Someday, we will reach a situation where "all ships are allowed entry and exit," but Iran is not allowing this, citing the mere possibility that "there might be mines somewhere." This is global blackmail, and leaders of countries, especially the leader of the United States, will never succumb to blackmail. Furthermore, I have ordered the U.S. Navy to search and intercept all vessels that have paid tolls to Iran in international waters. Those who illegally pay tolls cannot guarantee safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin to remove the mines Iran has placed in the strait. Any Iranian who fires on us, or fires on peaceful vessels, will go to hell! Iran knows better than anyone how to end this situation. This situation that has already devastated their country. Their navy, air force, anti-aircraft guns, and radar have become useless, and most of the "leaders," including Khomeini, have died due to their nuclear ambitions. A blockade will commence soon. Other countries will also join this blockade. We will not let Iran profit from this illegal extortion. They want money, and more importantly, nuclear weapons. Also, at the appropriate time, we will have all our weapons "loaded," and our military will completely annihilate the remnants left in Iran!
