China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs avoided confirming whether U.S. President Donald Trump had exchanged letters with Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding the issue of Iran.

During a regular press briefing on the 16th, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang stated, "We have no information to provide on the specific issues mentioned," when asked to confirm the letter exchange with President Xi, which President Trump had referenced in a recent media interview.

Earlier, in a Fox Business interview aired early on the 15th (local time), President Trump mentioned that he had sent a letter to President Xi requesting that China not provide weapons to Iran, and President Xi had replied that they were not doing so.

President Trump also wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, "China has agreed not to send weapons to Iran."

When questioned about whether the U.S. naval blockade against Iran was considered a "potential risk" factor for the upcoming U.S.-China summit scheduled for next month, Geng Shuang did not provide specific details on the situation but explained, "Both sides are maintaining communication regarding President Trump's visit to China."

He further emphasized, in response to the U.S. mentioning the sustainability of China's crude oil purchases from Iran and warning of sanctions, "We have consistently opposed illegal unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law and are not authorized by the United Nations Security Council."
