U.S. President Donald Trump stated on the 23rd (local time) regarding the end of hostilities and denuclearization negotiations with Iran that he "doesn't want to rush" and expressed his determination to achieve the agreement terms the United States desires, even if it takes time.
President Trump made these remarks at an event held at the White House concerning "reducing healthcare costs," saying, "I want to take my time. We have plenty of time."
He added, "I want to make a great deal," and "I want a deal where our country and the world are safe from madmen with nuclear weapons."
He also said, "I want something permanent. I want them to not have them (nuclear weapons), and not have the opportunity to have them."
These remarks by President Trump are also being interpreted as a high-level psychological warfare against Iran, coming at a time when rising oil prices are significantly impacting the sentiments of U.S. voters ahead of the November midterm elections, and public opinion is not leaning towards war.
It may be part of a psychological strategy to increase pressure on Iran by emphasizing that there is no reason to rush negotiations with Iran, which might believe that the fight against time is to their advantage due to the political and economic burdens President Trump might feel from a prolonged war. Simultaneously, it conveys a message that if the agreement is delayed, Iran's burden will increase.
Regarding the naval blockade targeting Iran, President Trump stated, "We are having 100% effective blockade measures. They are not doing well financially or economically, and they are unable to conduct any business due to the blockade."
He continued, "Iran wants a deal. We have been in communication with them, but they don't even know who is leading the country right now. They are in disarray."
This reiterates the previous assertion that Iran's leadership is divided into hardliners and moderates, failing to establish a unified stance.
President Trump suggested that Iran may have replenished some of its air defense equipment during the more than two-week ceasefire, stating, "Even if they did, we can eliminate it in one day."
When asked if he was willing to use nuclear weapons against Iran, President Trump replied, "No," adding, "Without nuclear weapons, we have already completely devastated them with conventional means alone, so why would I use nuclear weapons?"
He further emphasized, "We will not use nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons should never be used by anyone."
On the 7th, President Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, targeting Iran with a statement, "Tonight, an entire civilization will be eliminated and never again will it be restored," leading to speculation in some circles that the possibility of using nuclear weapons was being considered.
These remarks are interpreted as a clear indication that there is no intention to use nuclear weapons against Iran.
Regarding the background of the resignation of U.S. Navy Secretary John Phelan the previous day, President Trump said, "I liked him a lot," but added, "He had some clashes with other people, mainly surrounding the issues of new ship construction and procurement."
Meanwhile, President Trump announced that he had signed an agreement with the global pharmaceutical company Regeneron to lower drug prices in the United States to most-favored-nation status.
Previously, President Trump had pressured pharmaceutical companies by threatening to impose tariffs if they did not lower drug prices, leading them to reduce prices for major pharmaceuticals sold in the United States. So far, 17 pharmaceutical companies have joined in lowering drug prices.
