National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik strongly criticized the letter sent by Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives to Ambassador to the U.S. Kang Kyung-wha, urging her to halt discriminatory regulations against companies like Coupang, calling it a "clear interference in internal affairs."

Appearing on SBS Radio's "Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show" on the 24th, Woo stated, "This is unacceptable," and made the remarks.

He explained, "It is understandable for members of the National Assembly to send letters with opinions on other countries. However, they should not interfere with the laws or fundamental institutions of that country."

Regarding Coupang, he emphasized, "There has been a massive personal information leak and suspicions of algorithmic manipulation. This is a clear violation of current laws," adding, "Saying it is a 'biased measure against American companies' means they do not recognize our laws."

He pointed out, "Shouldn't (Coupang) comply with South Korean laws and follow the measures of the South Korean government when doing business and earning money in South Korea?" and stressed, "They should show courtesy to the South Korean people."

Woo also commented on the recent visit to the U.S. by Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, stating, "Fierce criticism is emerging within the party. That is quite puzzling."

He added, "Looking at the local election process, (People Power Party candidates for metropolitan government leadership) are acting independently from Leader Jang," and advised, "In that regard, (Leader Jang) needs to re-examine his position."

Woo said he "cannot comprehend" the People Power Party's stance against constitutional revision.

He further added, "If they agree that constitutional revision is necessary going forward, then this is the natural time to do it," and expressed his hope that "Members of the People Power Party will make a wise decision to cross the river of unlawful emergency martial law together, and that Leader Jang will do the same."
