White House Spokesperson Answering Reporters' Questions [UPI=Yonhap News] 

The White House announced that Steve Wictor, the President's Special Envoy for the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, who are leading the US negotiating team with Iran, will travel to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on the 25th for negotiations with Iran.

White House spokesperson Caroline Witt announced on Fox News on the 24th (local time) that "Special Envoy Wictor and Kushner will depart for Pakistan again tomorrow morning (25th) to hold direct talks with the Iranian delegation under Pakistan's mediation."

Witt explained that Iran had initially requested a face-to-face meeting with the US.

She added that President Trump will hear the Iranian side's position through the US negotiating team and expressed hope for "productive dialogue."

Witt stated that Vice President JD Vance, who led the first round of negotiations, will remain in the US this time to monitor the situation, but will be prepared to travel to Pakistan if necessary.

The US negotiating team is expected to engage in negotiations with the Iranian delegation led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Minister Araghchi is reportedly scheduled to arrive in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, as early as today.

The US and Iran held initial ceasefire negotiations in Islamabad on April 11-12, which broke down. The second round of negotiations, expected to be held on April 21 ahead of the two-week ceasefire deadline, did not take place.

Attention is focused on whether the two sides can bridge their differences on Iran's nuclear program and the normalization of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz if the second round of negotiations resumes.

Witt reiterated that the ultimate goal of the military operation against Iran, "Magnificent Fury," is "to ensure that Iran never possesses nuclear weapons," and stated that "we have now entered a diplomatic phase to resolve this through an agreement."

She further explained that President Trump's "red line" is "for Iran to hand over its enriched uranium and to firmly commit that it will never acquire, possess, develop, or manufacture nuclear weapons."

When asked by reporters at the White House about whether the US had received a unified proposal from Iran, Witt replied, "It seems there has been definite progress from Iran in the past few days," and added, "We will see what they have to say."

President Trump had previously announced an extension of the ceasefire, setting the deadline until "Iran clarifies its internal differences, submits a unified proposal, and negotiations conclude in either direction."

Meanwhile, Witt announced that she will temporarily suspend her briefings due to her pregnancy. Witt, the youngest White House spokesperson in history at 29, married real estate businessman Nicholas Riccio, 32 years her senior, and gave birth to a son in July 2024. She is currently awaiting the birth of her second child.
