The police have dismissed a case accusing former President Moon Jae-in and former Minister of Health and Welfare Jeong Eun-kyeong of mishandling COVID-19 vaccines.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul announced on the 28th that it dismissed the case on the 1st, which accused former President Moon, former Minister Jeong, and former Minister of Health and Welfare Kwon Deok-cheol of abuse of power, dereliction of duty, violation of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, fraud, and murder.
The dismissal was due to the finding that the alleged offenses did not constitute a crime.
The civic group People's Livelihood Countermeasure Committee (Minsewi) filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, stating that vaccinations with the same batch number were not immediately halted despite reports of foreign substances in vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic. The case was subsequently assigned to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station.
The Gangnam Police Station is also currently investigating a case in which former President Moon and former Minister Jeong are accused of dereliction of duty and professional negligence resulting in death. The complainant was questioned on the 2nd.
