Kyodo News reported that the memorial hall is a three-story building that houses soldiers' belongings and features tombstones and stone monuments inscribed with the names of fallen soldiers in its outdoor area.

It added, "North Korea has not disclosed the exact number of casualties among the soldiers dispatched to support Russia's invasion of Ukraine," noting that "the South Korean National Intelligence Service estimated the number of North Korean military deaths to be around 2,000 last September."

Kursk is a southwestern region of Russia bordering Ukraine, with parts of it occupied by Ukrainian forces in August 2024.

Through its troop deployment, North Korea made a decisive contribution to Russia's recapture of Kursk, and Russia officially declared the recovery of Kursk's territory on April 26th of last year.
