Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty and Innovation Party and former Prime Minister, who is running in the upcoming by-election for the National Assembly in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, in June, declared his resolve to "overthrow the Lee Jae-myung regime" through strong united struggle against suspicions of election fraud, defining the current situation as a "crisis of regime survival" in an interview with Newsmax, a prominent American conservative media outlet.

This interview is one in a series of interviews that have emerged as American media interest in Korea has grown, following Hwang's speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Texas in March, the world's largest conservative conference.

In a recent interview with Craig Myers, a Newsmax commentator and a pro-Donald Trump figure known for emphasizing election integrity, Hwang Kyo-ahn presented a blueprint for rebuilding conservative values based on the value of the Korea-U.S. alliance.

Return to Politics After 'Endurance and Reflection'... Founding New Party and Struggle Against Anti-National Forces

In this interview, Hwang Kyo-ahn recalled his time since entering politics in 2019. After taking party leadership, he stepped down following election defeat. He reflected on his return to the political forefront after a period of "endurance and reflection," during which he has consistently fought with a clear stance on exposing election fraud.

He emphasized the clarity of his political message when he stated that the core background for founding the "Liberty and Innovation" party in July last year was "to conduct an independent politics differentiated from existing parties and to continuously deliver strong ideological messages." He then unveiled his strong ambition to elevate Korea to a "world-class, top-tier nation" with four major visions: △ Eradicating election fraud △ Punishing anti-national forces such as Lee Jae-myung △ Strengthening pro-U.S. and anti-China diplomacy △ Moving towards a future with youth.

"Impeachment of President Yoon Was Illegal... How Can an Impeachment Decision Be Reversed if Acquitted?"

Hwang Kyo-ahn, a former prosecutor and Minister of Justice, dedicated a significant portion of this interview to strongly criticizing the legal inconsistencies in the impeachment and dismissal of President Yoon Suk-yeol.

Specifically, he expressed his legal opinion, stating, "The investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, which lacks investigative authority, the issuance of arrest warrants by courts outside their jurisdiction, and the restrictions on defense rights and speaking time during the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial were procedurally illegal."

He added, "The biggest problem is that the Constitutional Court made a dismissal decision while the investigation into President Yoon Suk-yeol for treason and other charges was still ongoing." He expressed deep regret over the current situation where the president's emergency measure, intended to secure evidence of election fraud, was distorted into treason, leading to prolonged detention, by asking, "What will happen to the impeachment decision if the case under investigation is later found to be not guilty?"

He sharply pointed out the legal loopholes, stating, "They are using the declaration of martial law as an issue and have been detaining President Yoon for over a year. The declaration of martial law is a presidential prerogative stipulated in the Constitution, so it is wrong to have arrested him for treason for exercising martial law. Moreover, treason can only be established if the intent to subvert the nation and an uprising are recognized, but what subversion of the nation is the president committing?"

"The Cause of All Crises Is Election Fraud"... Emphasizes the Need for Korea-U.S. Conservative Solidarity

Hwang diagnosed the crisis in South Korea as stemming from an "international election fraud cartel," extending beyond simplistic domestic political conflicts.

He stated, "The cause of all current crises in South Korea is election fraud. Nations around the world, including Korea and the United States, are suffering due to election fraud cartels, and comprehensive countermeasures against these cartels are needed."

He emphasized Korea-U.S. cooperation, saying, "I am aware that there are various attacks against President Trump in the United States by the Democratic Party, and Korea and the U.S. must jointly confront these and overcome them. Since the situations that are damaging our countries are almost identical, joint response is necessary."

Points to "Leftist Indoctrination Education Spanning Decades" as the Cause

He also analyzed that the leftist indoctrination education that began in the 1980s has led to the current leaders of the Moon Jae-in and Lee Jae-myung regimes. He expressed his determination to defend Christian values against their pursuit of "religious persecution" and "church closure laws."

Hwang stated, "The reason South Korea is moving away from liberal democracy is not by chance but has been prepared through long-term, meticulous maneuvers. The disguised preparations and strategies for communist revolution, expressed by the term 'indoctrination,' are bearing fruit today, and those who prepared this since the 1980s now hold key positions in the Moon Jae-in and Lee Jae-myung administrations."

He lamented, "They have continuously instilled anti-American and anti-Christian sentiments, and with the support of the Korean Teachers' and Education Workers' Union and the media, South Korea's liberal democracy is collapsing. Recently, they have launched direct attacks on Christianity, arresting Pastor Son Hyun-bo and even preparing church closure laws."

He continued, "Along with my belief in liberal democracy, as a Christian, I continue to fight against the unjust persecution of churches, and a greater struggle lies ahead."

Overthrowing the Lee Jae-myung Regime and the Struggle for Right-Wing Solidarity... "The Realization of Judicial Justice is the Beginning of Regime Change"

Hwang Kyo-ahn also expressed his expectations for the younger generation. He positively assessed the expansion of the base for the struggle against the current regime, stating, "Charlie Kirk's visit to Korea had a significant impact, and the large organization called Liberty University, founded by Korean youth, holds large-scale rallies with 20,000 to 30,000 attendees."

He particularly emphasized the importance of solidarity among four right-wing parties to prevent the "socialist dictatorship" of the current regime, stating, "We are continuously working to overthrow the Lee Jae-myung regime."

He also called for a judicial decision by referring to Lee Jae-myung's suspended past trial.

Hwang suggested the possibility of regime change through judicial justice, saying, "If Lee Jae-myung's election law trial, which was suspended after being returned for retrial with a guilty verdict, resumes and is processed within three months, Lee Jae-myung's influence will be halved."

In this interview, Hwang Kyo-ahn quoted the adage "Freedom is not free" and urged, "The right-wing forces of Korea and the United States must join hands to protect liberal democracy." He emphasized the need to not be complacent in the current situation but to jointly confront and overcome challenges.
